A Fiber Infrastructure Executed on Revenue PDF Print E-mail

When PAETEC decided to purchase Cavalier and their fiber subsidiary Intellifiber Networks, Inc they were ready for further success. Not only did they acquire additional fiber assets but they acquired the team and know how to further monetize their current fiber assets.

As a result of the acquisition, PAETEC now has over 10,600 metro fiber-route miles, over 36,700 total fiber-route miles, and 1,178 collocations to support connectivity to enterprise businesses nationwide.

PAETEC Fiber Services was then created to operate and execute their new fiber network product set. Clint Heiden serves as a Senior Vice President of PAETEC and President of National Accounts and Fiber Services. In this role, he leads PAETEC’s sales, operations and strategy for its 37,000 route-mile fiber network as well as PAETEC’s strategy for nationwide accounts across all products. To integrate the two Companies PAETEC went to their sales force and to their sales agent force and made sure that everyone was adequately trained on all aspects of the new combined PAETEC.

As a result, all network and products are now available for PAETEC’s channel partners to sell nationwide. The broad and unique Intellifiber portfolio includes solutions for fiber, Ethernet, and custom network design and build projects to serve the diverse needs of the agent channel.

“I’ve spent my career embracing the channel collaboratively and as a critical component of organic revenue growth,” said Clint Heiden, president of Fiber Services. “These services have had incredible growth internally at Intellifiber, and I’m confident by extending our expertise, that our channel partners will immediately find ways to increase revenue and lower churn.” PAETEC’s 37,000 route-mile fiber network is now among the largest nationally of competitive local communications providers. New capabilities now available for the agent channel include Ethernet (3 Mbps to 10G), Wavelengths (1G to 10G), SONET (DS1 to OC192), Ethernet over Copper (EoC), industry-leading low latency routes, and custom network builds.

All products are available for both metro and long-haul applications. According to Heiden, “Our fiber infrastructure is executed on revenue” The custom network builds are varied and often include custom builds into data centers. Building diverse and distinct paths into and out of data centers is something that has become somewhat of a specialty for the Company. The Company interconnects with major data, carrier and hosting facilities in Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC.

The company also has lit capacity into a variety of centers in such markets as Norfolk, Richmond, Wilmington, Albany, Syracuse, and Buffalo. In addition to these services, PAETEC boasts one of the largest EoC presence on the East Coast with 275 fiber-fed central offices serving over 200,000 end user locations. In 2011, PAETEC will add another 160 central offices doubling the end user coverage.

PAETEC’s low latency routes gained through the acquisition include diverse networking, industry leading RTD SLA’s, two-day service activation, and dedicated latency monitoring. PAETEC operates a network that is ready for 40 G with a card change which makes them very robust in today’s market.

With low latency fiber routes they are well prepared to serve the financial markets. With the financial customers demanding the low latency routes they are also showing the need for these type routes for the gaming and content customers. For instance their low latency New York to Chicago fiber route is diverse and very much in demand.

The PAETEC fiber route from Chicago to Washington DC is very low latency and very much in demand. In addition to point-to-point connectivity, these access methods are also part of PAETEC’s unique portfolio to serve businesses including extensive network and managed services, cloud and data center solutions, and innovative communications software to drive efficiency.

All services are available through the existing PAETEC Channel Program “These services allow us to become more strategic in our approach in serving our customers and more relevant to their long term networking needs,” said Kristine Barton, director, solutions engineering at ARG, a PAETEC agent. “The ability to have access to the solutions along with the technical resources makes the PAETEC model very unique in the market and gives us more opportunity to differentiate as we consult with clients on their high-bandwidth requirements. In today’s market where larger, scalable bandwidth is in high demand, the PAETEC offering could not be more timely.”
